Screenwriting Advice

I think I have the right at this point in my life to talk about writing advice for others. I have wrote multiple TV shows, short films and even songs to go with them. I started writing creatively when I could pick up a pen. I was never afraid to show what bizarreness came from inside my imagination. When I say bizarre, I mean it. I'm surprised they didn't lock me up, some of the ideas were plain wild. Anyway, not the point. Let's just say, some of the best writing can come from ideas like it.

My ideas come from my dreams. I've always dreamt lucidly from the time my brain developed. Sometimes they're lucid and on a rare occasion, they're premonitions. I gotta be careful at times as I definitely don't want my life imitating art again. It's happened and god damn, I freaked. I was sitting there with deja vu like "Why have I experienced this?" it clicked a while later when reading my own work. One of my earlier We Are Gold episodes, it was exactly to a T that day. I was mind blown beyond my brains capability. Shook.

Life experiences come in handy for writing. It can be an outlet to handle emotions. That's what I do. I can't say it always helps but sometimes it does. Half of my ideas come from the world around me. Things I see and people I see of. If you look in detail, those around you can make great templated but I learnt the hard way. Don't ever take something someone did and write about it, especially if people want to see it. Conflict incoming. I didn't mean any harm intentionally. I just wanted to cope with bullying. It solved itself and I never wrote like that again.

Write about things you know or that you can research on. Get advice from others on the subjects if it is something they're experienced. I'm one for research, not because I'm autistic but also that at the same time, I love being accurate. I don't want to be malicious or write content that hurts others intentionally. If I'm stuck, I always ask. Usually it's all good. I stick with what I understand. It's easier. Although, research is totally fun. I love facts and knowledge.

Don't be afraid to speak your truth. Don't hold your tongue if something bothers you. Write it out. Share your story.

To finish: A lot of already successful shows can actually inspire writing. As long as you're not violating copyright, it is okay to take templates or traits, as long as you put a twist on it.

Best of luck. Soon I will talk about how to format a script. That is an important thing to know xox.
